About The Position

The Senior Technology Leader for Core Payments is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of ACH and Wire Transfer platforms, which are foundational to the bank’s payment ecosystem. This role drives modernization of legacy systems, aligns technology delivery with enterprise payment growth objectives, and fosters a culture of innovation and accountability across a large, cross-functional team.

Requirements

  • Equivalent combination of advanced education and related experience, which could include any combination of: Fifteen years’ experience managing software engineers and systems analysts, Ten years’ relevant business experience (i.e. making technical-related decisions on the business side), Five years’ managing a large staff, (including managing managers), and Five years’ experience with budget responsibilities
  • Ability to translate enterprise level strategic planning information into software and data management needs, create business plans, and turn them into effective business solutions
  • Executive level communications skills, including, strong negotiation/facilitation/presentation skills and experience negotiating with vendors for relevant products and services
  • Significant knowledge of current and emerging application software products and tools
  • Extensive project management experience to include multi-million dollar projects completed on time, within budget and delivering quality results
  • Strong analytical and architectural skills
  • Ability to manage a high volume of internal client relationships
  • Knowledge of all phases of software engineering life cycle and experience with process improvement models

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise payments technology, with deep expertise in ACH and Wire systems.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale modernization efforts in financial services.
  • Strong understanding of payment networks and settlement mechanisms (ACH, RTP, Fedwire, SWIFT, CHIPS).
  • Experience managing large teams and complex delivery portfolios.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and observability tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery models and DevSecOps practices.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership Define and execute the modernization roadmap for ACH and Wire platforms, including integration with real-time payment networks (e.g., RTP, FedNow, SWIFT, CHIPS).
  • Align technology initiatives with enterprise-wide payment growth strategies and enterprise technology key strategies and operating principles (a.k.a MAPS) – CHANGE MAPS FOR EXTERNAL Define, develop and execute a modernization strategy for Core Payments at Truist balancing near and future business objectives, current state technology environments and a strong risk posture
  • Serve as a key voice in enterprise architecture discussions, influencing platform evolution and capability-based planning.
  • Technology Delivery Lead end-to-end delivery of enhancements and transformations across ACH and Wire systems, ensuring compliance with NACHA, Fedwire, and SWIFT standards.
  • Oversee planning, development, and deployment of scalable, secure, and resilient payment solutions.
  • Drive technology roadmaps and architectural execution using proven core banking technology and modern engineering practices (e.g., cloud-native, microservices, event-driven architecture).
  • Partner with product and operations teams to ensure technology solutions meet business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Organizational Change & Enablement Drive cultural and operational change across the Core Payments organization to foster future-focused thinking and delivery excellence.
  • Build and mentor high-performing teams, including technology managers, engineers, technology product owners and operations Champion teammate readiness and adoption of new platforms and processes.
  • Risk & Compliance Ensure platforms meet internal and external audit standards, including legal risk reviews and fraud controls.
  • Collaborate with risk and compliance teams to proactively manage vulnerabilities and ensure secure transaction processing.
