Job Description Job Summary: Support of the Payload Safety Review Panel for all phases of payload safety reviews. Assignments tend to be of moderate complexity, diversification or expense. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and process to meet goals outlined. Normally receives instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 0-2 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires understanding of operations in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data or process information.
  • Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.
  • US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with anomalies, troubleshooting, emergency response, and handling hazardous materials are a plus.
  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
  • Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the evaluation of safety data package from a Payload Operations Integration (POI) perspective, gathering POI comments and operational requirements, ensuring those requirements get implemented into the safety analysis.
  • Responsible for hazard control evaluation, extraction, and incorporation into POI Safety’s database (PDL).
  • Required to evaluate and assist in development of ops products to include, crew procedures, ground command procedures, flights rules and crew training regarding operational hazard control enforcement.
  • Required to analyze Operations Change Requests, Flight Notes, CHIT’s (Mission Action Request) and other change traffic and work with Mission Evaluation Room (MER) Safety via various control boards to achieve a safe resolution to possible safety issues.
  • POI Safety is responsible for enforcement of all applicable operational constraints for payloads.
  • Required to support real time console support on call for Safety for the International Space Station (ISS) Payload Operations.
