About The Position

Under general supervision of the Pavement Supervisor, operates a pavement sweeper to remove debris from public roadways and parking lots as well as the airfield when necessary. Respond to emergency situations such as vehicle accidents to provide assistance to DPS. Patch small potholes on airfield requiring cold patch asphalt. Assist the other departments on miscellaneous needs involving public roadways such as debris or trash in the roadways, setting up cones or barricades, deicing sidewalks and roadways, etc. Operate snow and ice removal equipment during winter weather events. May be asked to assist with operating light duty equipment as well as use power and hand tools to repair concrete and asphalt surfaces such as runways, taxiways, roadways, and parking lots. May be asked to assist with the preparation of excavated areas. Work may be assigned and monitored by a lead person.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent; or one (1) year of experience; or any equivalentbination of education and/or experience may be substituted.
  • Possession of a valid Class Bmercial driver's license or ability to obtain the license in a predetermined time frame by the supervisor.
  • Must be able to work rotating shift assignment.
  • Must pass a medical physical examination.
  • Must have a good private driving record: (a) no more than two (2) convictions of moving violations in the last 36 months and (b) no DWI convictions in the last 60 months.
  • This is a DOT-designated and Airport-designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport's Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass drug and alcohol tests prior to employment and to submit to drug and alcohol screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions in working with hot asphalt mix and operating road machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the techniques and practices in finishing concrete and asphalt surfaces.
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to operate a variety of powered and mobile equipment to maintain paved areas.
  • Ability to operate manual and powered tools.
  • Ability to clean, check fluid levels, add fluid as required and to lubricate assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and tomunicate clearly over two-way radio, including ground control for AOA operations.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction and multiplication and division.
  • Ability to drive in Aircraft Movement Area and/or obtain certification to drive in the Aircraft Movement Area.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a valid Class Amercial driver's license
  • Previous experience in concrete or asphalt repair and finish.
  • Training in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist other departments including Airfield Operations and the Integrated Operations Center on minor miscellaneous task involving public roadways, parking lots, runways, and taxiways.
  • Responding to emergency situations such as vehicle accidents to assist DPS
  • Responding to calls regarding debris or trash in roadways or parking lots
  • Recovering lost items in storm drains inlets
  • Minor pothole repair using cold patch asphalt
  • Setting or moving cones, barricades, or signage
  • Minor fence, guardrail, and attenuator repairs
  • Empty public trash containers
  • Operate a pavement sweeper to remove debris and clean roadways, parking lots, runways and taxiways.
  • Assist and coordinate with Airfield Operations on runway closures.
  • Operate snow and ice removal equipment during winter weather events.
  • May work on a crew to excavate, repair, and maintain concrete and asphalt surfaces including runways, taxiways, public roadways, and parking lots.
  • Spall and pothole repair

  • Saw cut, jackhammer, replace rebar, and pour back concrete
  • Concrete curb repair
  • Use of epoxy resin concrete for roadway and bridge repair
  • Mixing of concrete and admixtures
  • Finish surfaces with manual and powered hand tools and equipment
  • Replace, repair and maintenance of concrete and asphalt joints.
  • Repair and maintenance of concrete and asphalt cracks.
  • Repair and maintenance of storm drains and flumes.
  • Repair and maintenance of guardrails and attenuators.
  • Repair and maintenance of fencing, razor wire, and barbed wire.
  • Setup and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, barrels, arrow boards to create a safe work site.
  • Setup, and move traffic barriers such as concrete and water filled barricades.
  • Be on call to respond to emergency situations requiring assistance from the Pavements Shop.
  • Clean, organize, and restock inventory of materials such as pallets of concrete and cold patch bags
  • Cleans, checks fluid and gas levels, adds fluid and gas, lubricates vehicles and equipment.
