About The Position

This position is accountable for evaluating hardware and software needs, providing technical support, advice, and education for the ongoing use, maintenance, enhancement, and oversight of all data systems in the Bureau of Research. This position directly supports data systems for all of the bureau’s pavement data collection equipment, including friction testing, profile testing, falling weight deflectometer (FWD) structural condition testing, and all other computerized data collection activities. In addition, this position is accountable for maintaining the department’s mechanistic-empirical pavement design spreadsheet to reflect updates in pavement management efforts that impact the life-cycle cost analysis and pavement type selection. This position is accountable for keeping all data files accessible as software updates are issued to ensure data use in maintaining department policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in computer science, computer information systems, computer programming, or management information systems PLUS three years of experience in managing data systems; OR eleven years of experience in managing data systems.
  • Occasional statewide and out-of-state travel which may include overnight stays.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and administers the activities of the Pavement Data Management Unit.
  • Provides technical support, advice, and education for the ongoing use, maintenance, enhancement, and oversight of all data systems for the bureau.
  • Manages data to remain accessible through software updates to ensure that both the bureau’s long- and short-term data processing needs are met.
  • Establishes procedures and guidelines and oversees all data processing and storage programs for the bureau.
  • Provides close coordination to ensure quality data collected during the limited field-testing season is securely stored and maintains a database of test locations for the bureau's friction, riding quality, and falling weight deflectometer (FWD) programs.
  • Evaluates existing data collection, storage, and management options and provides recommendations regarding purchase and/or development of necessary hardware/software.
  • Fosters close working relationship with the Bureau of Information Processing to ensure departmental protocols are followed.
  • Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel to ensure their effectiveness.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
