About The Position

Waukesha County Department of Public Works Highway Operations Division is seeking a seasoned leader to join its Patrol Superintendents Team (total of 4 Superintendents). In this role, you'll plan, coordinate, and supervise a comprehensive maintenance and repair program for State and County maintained roads and highways. Strong leadership skills are highly valued for managing the daily activities and handling of emergencies affecting road conditions. Key Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and supervise the maintenance and repair of roads and highways. Schedule and implement road projects, coordinate with crews and involved parties. Handle materials, supply inventory, and safety operations. Train staff in work procedures and safety practices. Evaluate staffing levels and methods to optimize road project execution. Investigate public complaints and coordinate with law enforcement and other agencies regarding emergencies. Oversee and maintain accurate records for budgets, projects, and environmentally hazardous materials. Perform duties of Highway Operations Manager in their absence and represent department in Emergency Operations Center as required. Additional Requirements: Availability on a 24/7 basis in response to emergencies. Strong record-keeping and project management abilities. Ability to work in varying weather conditions. Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse groups and work collaboratively. Typical Work Schedule (a Patrol Superintendent may be called upon at any time to respond to emergency situations such as snowstorms, windstorms, flooding, traffic accidents, fires) : Summer Hours - 0530-1530 (consisting of four (4), ten (10) hour days) Winter Hours - 0630 to 01230 (consisting of five (5), eight (8) hour days, M-F)

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of work experience in the maintenance, design, repair, or construction of roads, bridges, and highways, two (2) years of which were in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Graduation from a recognized school or university with an associates degree or higher in supervisory management or a closely related field may be substituted for the two (2) years of lead/supervisory experience.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Valid Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement within six (6) months of hire.
  • Availability on a 24/7 basis in response to emergencies.
