  • Conduct criminal and non-criminal investigations.
  • Conduct traffic accident investigations.
  • Conduct traffic enforcement.
  • Conduct DUI detection and enforcement.
  • Interview victims, suspects, and witnesses.
  • Apprehend suspects, offenders, and individuals with warrants.
  • Issue citations, Notice to Appears, and No Trespass Notices to suspects and violators.
  • Preserve crime scenes, photographic documentation, collection, and preservation of evidence.
  • Enforce University policies and procedures.
  • Deliver crime prevention and personal safety education presentations.
  • Mediate disputes.
  • Maintain public order, protect lives and property.
  • Respond to criminal behavior and calls in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
  • Enforcement of Federal, State and Local laws along with university policies.
  • Provide for the safe and convenient flow of pedestrians and motor vehicle traffic in and around our university community.
  • Prepare written reports and other documentation as required.
  • Present evidence and provide oral testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Enforce university parking rules/regulations.
  • Provide law enforcement assistance to other agencies.
  • Coordinate with Billings Police, Billings Fire, and AMR during emergencies.
  • Assist with maintenance and upkeep of UPD equipment.
  • Perform other law enforcement duties as assigned.
  • Respond to medical, fire and other emergency situations.
  • Conduct routine motor vehicle, bicycle, and foot patrols.
  • Assist with security at various university functions.
  • Conduct building security checks.
  • Provide escorts.
  • Observe and report building deficiencies to Facilities Services.
  • Assist Facilities Services with fire code inspections and fire drills.
  • Maintain/inspect monthly and annual fire extinguishers and AEDs.
  • Locking and unlocking buildings.
  • Train with Residence Halls Directors, Resident Assistants, and Housing & Residence Life Staff.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid and insurable Montana driver's license.
  • Maintain annual firearms and CEW/Taser qualification.
  • Maintain CPR, First Aid, Narcan, and AED certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or other relevant field of study.
  • Successfully complete Montana Law Enforcement Academy Basic Police Officer Training or EQ Challenge and has obtained Montana Public Safety Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification as a Peace Officer.
