About the position

The Patrol Manager is responsible for directing and managing the Ski Patrol Department, which includes rescue, first aid, lift evacuation, trail maintenance, hazard mitigation, trail evaluation for opening/closing, wayfinding signage, informational signage, and public safety. This role encompasses overall department performance, staffing, training, budgeting, scheduling, employee safety, culture, interdepartmental relations, and guest service. The Ski Patrol Manager manages and assigns all Ski Patrol operations to ensure the resort is maintained in a safe, well-organized, efficient, and enjoyable environment. The position is responsible for executing safety initiatives, overseeing medical aid, leading all aspects of snow safety work, rope rescue, lift evacuation, and incident investigation. The Ski Patrol Manager reports to the Mountain Experience Manager and collaborates with the Mountain Operations team to execute daily operations, common goals, planning, and future initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing, year-round team.
  • Manage a team of 60+ winter patrol staff and 20+ summer bike patrol staff.
  • Create and foster a positive work culture among staff.
  • Develop and maintain all patrol procedures, plans, and policies for both winter and summer operations.
  • Implement comprehensive training programs for patrol staff based on National Ski Patrol standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety policies and operational guidelines.
  • Manage on-mountain tasks including trail evaluations and hazard mitigation.
  • Perform risk management tasks involving review of accident reports and dispatch records.
  • Visit accident scenes and oversee investigations.
  • Create and manage budgets, track expenditures, and report on financial performance.
  • Confer regularly with the Mountain Experience Manager about budgetary anomalies.
  • Manage scheduling, payroll, safety attendance, and incident reporting.
  • Ensure accurate trail status information is reflected in the Daily Operations Report.
  • Work collaboratively with national organizations for staff training opportunities.
  • Interact professionally with various individuals and organizations outside the company.
  • Participate in department/division and company meetings.
  • Assist with prioritizing off-season repair and maintenance efforts.
  • Provide leadership in trauma exposure management and stress injury prevention.
  • Evaluate performance and implement training programs for leadership development.
  • Provide superior service to customers and follow Resort Hospitality Standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid US Driver's License meeting the minimum requirements of KPSRP's insurance carrier.
  • Previous ski patrol experience, preferably in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Current certification in Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC).
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent reading, writing, analytical, and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent skiing or snowboarding ability.
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.

Nice-to-haves

  • NSP Senior or NSP Certified level patroller.
  • A broad base of relevant technical knowledge in emergency medicine and mountain rescue.
