About The Position

The Patient Transporter is responsible for safely, timely, and accurately transporting patients while providing the utmost positive experience. Provides the pivotal first and most lasting impressions while setting the tone that the key concept of patient transportation is the human element. This position is held to the highest standards of being friendly, empathic, knowledgeable, well-spoken, bilingual, and continuously patient-oriented. Patient Transporter harmonizes the patient transportation experience while working seamlessly with hospital staff to reduce unnecessary delays to help drive patient satisfaction.

Requirements

  • A GED or high school diploma is required.
  • BLS (basic life support) – can be obtained while in training
  • Proficiency in English required
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and transporting patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Commitment to the University’s core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Transport: Safely transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed to designated areas within the hospital, including those with oxygen tanks, IV pumps, monitors, and other necessary equipment.
  • Assessment and Communication: Assess patients to determine the most effective transport method. Communicate vital patient information to department managers, group leads, and other team members as needed.
  • Equipment Management: Ensure the cleanliness and proper function of all transport equipment. Assist in the distribution, retrieval, and cleaning of clinical equipment throughout the facility.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all hospital and departmental policies, with special attention to safety, infection control, and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance). Follow standards of precaution, MSDS, and hand hygiene directives.
  • Team Collaboration: Cooperate effectively with team members to consistently meet the changing needs of patients, the department, and the hospital.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in departmental quality assurance and improvement activities. Demonstrate initiative and creativity to continuously enhance services and processes.
  • Documentation: Transport charts and specimens in a confidential and efficient manner. Handle all work-related information with care to maintain patient privacy.
  • Training: Complete all mandatory training as designated and required by the hospital.
