The Centralized Transporter is responsible for safely and effectively transporting patients to and from all departments, while continuously monitoring them for comfort and safety. This role also encompasses performing non-clinical clerical, maintenance, and patient-related tasks to support the provision of quality patient care. The Transporter must exercise caution with medical devices such as IV lines, pumps, monitors, and oxygen tanks, and is also tasked with transporting specimens and equipment as assigned. Adherence to isolation precautions and standard precautions is mandatory at all times. Key responsibilities include observing and monitoring patients' mental and physical status upon arrival and during transport, recognizing and reporting equipment or patient problems to appropriate staff, and ensuring all essential patient papers/records accompany the patient. The Transporter will confirm orders and review patient status with unit staff before moving patients and relay critical information upon entry or return to departments. Additionally, the role involves maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies on transport equipment, cleaning and arranging repairs for equipment, and following priorities set by transport tracking software or dispatchers. This position requires performing essential functions at both Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital locations.
