This position involves transporting patients and equipment throughout Geisinger Hospitals and Clinics using wheelchairs or gurneys. Key responsibilities include assisting floor staff with patient transfers, transporting patient belongings and deceased individuals, and helping patients in and out of vehicles and transport equipment. The role requires lifting and maneuvering patients with proper body mechanics and equipment. Additionally, the Patient Transporter is responsible for transporting specific patient care equipment, specialty carts, and beds, as well as managing equipment by identifying items needing cleaning and repair, transporting soiled and broken equipment, and cleaning and staging patient care equipment for redistribution. Maintaining wheelchair availability in staging locations is also part of the job. Patient Transporters are expected to interact professionally with patients, communicate transport destinations, and collaborate with other healthcare team members to facilitate patient care. Assignments are received via Smartphone, and the role requires proper patient identification prior to transport and utilization of a technology system for managing transports, including using the Delay and Postpone function. Issuing and logging rental equipment and adhering to Geisinger Patient Transport/Nursing Handoff Guidelines are also essential. This role is vital in ensuring patients reach their destinations safely, comfortably, and with compassion, and does not require a clinical license.
