About The Position

The Patient Transporter is responsible for escorting and transporting patients within the healthcare facility, ensuring their safety and comfort during transit. This role involves operating transport equipment, maintaining cleanliness, and adhering to infection control protocols while providing essential support to clinical staff during patient transfers.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience required.

Responsibilities

• Escort or transport patients within the facility.
• Record patient movement in the transport tracking system.
• Pick-up and deliver materials and equipment as directed.
• Clean, maintain, and operate transport equipment.
• Operate elevators to move or escort patients/visitors to various hospital areas.
• Provide formal hand-off reports at destination when not required to stay with the patient.
• Report any changes in patient status/condition during transport.
• Remove and report defective equipment to supervisor.
• Assist clinical staff with lifting and moving patients for transfer and transport.
• Ensure oxygen tanks for transport contain sufficient oxygen and are safely secured.
• Confirm patient readiness for transport and ensure appropriate equipment is available.
• Recognize cardio-pulmonary distress symptoms and provide interim basic life support until the code team arrives.
• Use the patient transport tracking system to receive patient information and manage assignments.
• Transfer deceased patients to the hospital morgue according to policy.
