About The Position

The position involves transporting patients to and from scheduled treatment appointments using stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, and ambulation. The transportation of patients is carried out in a timely manner according to department guidelines and national benchmarks. The role includes assisting patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds with the help of technical staff and nursing assistance as needed. Transport assignments are dispatched electronically and received via phones and pagers. Observing departmental and hospital safety policies and procedures is crucial, including maintaining safety standards and using proper body mechanics while assisting patients. The employee is responsible for following patient identification policies, ensuring safety precautions are in place during transportation, and assisting with patient care activities such as positioning, lifting, and turning patients. Proper handling of medical equipment and maintaining patient confidentiality are also essential duties.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • No specific years of experience required.
  • No licenses or certifications required.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients to and from scheduled treatment appointments using stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, and ambulation.
  • Assist patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds with technical staff and nursing assistance as needed.
  • Dispatch and receive transport assignments electronically via phones and pagers.
  • Observe departmental and hospital safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain safety standards and use proper body mechanics while assisting patients.
  • Follow patient identification policy during each transport.
  • Ensure safety precautions are in place during transportation.
  • Assist with patient care activities such as positioning, lifting, and turning patients.
  • Properly handle oxygen tanks, infusion pumps, IVs, and other medical equipment.
  • Utilize universal precautions at all times when transporting or handling patients.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Use and maintain equipment according to vendor protocol and departmental standards.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental needs.
  • Serve as a positive role model and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Respond to scheduling responsibilities with timeliness.
  • Participate in development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives to improve outcomes.
  • Advocate for the principles of High Reliability in patient care and operational efficiencies.
  • Utilize data to drive improvement.
  • Maintain exemplary customer service standards for patient experience.
  • Attend in-services and unit meetings.
  • Maintain the integrity of unit equipment and clean all equipment after each use.
  • Complete all unit assignments as assigned.
  • Assist visitors to designated areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required or directed.
  • Perform duties in other units/departments depending on hospital needs.
  • Maintain a clutter-free environment within the hospital and surrounding areas.
  • Monitor assigned specific areas to clear unwanted equipment.
  • Follow the time and attendance policy and maintain a good attendance record.
  • Attend required in-services and demonstrate proficiency in CPR.
