About The Position

The Patient Transporter is responsible for transporting patients to and from scheduled treatment appointments using stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, and ambulation. This role involves assessing patients' ability to transfer, referring those who need assistance to nursing staff, and ensuring timely transportation according to departmental guidelines. The transporter must maintain safety standards, follow patient identification policies, and assist with patient care activities while ensuring confidentiality of patient information.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • 1 year of customer service experience preferred.
  • BLS for healthcare providers certification.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients to and from scheduled treatment appointments using stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, and ambulation.
  • Assesses patient's ability to transfer to mode of transportation.
  • Refers patients perceived to be incapable of transferring without assistance to nurse.
  • Reviews handoff report for essential information to care for patient during transport.
  • Carries out transportation of patients in a timely manner according to department guidelines.
  • Assists patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds with technical staff and nursing assistance as needed.
  • Dispatches transport assignments electronically.
  • Maintains safety standards and uses proper body mechanics while assisting patients in transfer.
  • Follows patient identification policy during each transport.
  • Ensures safety precautions are in place during transportation.
  • Assists with patient care activities such as positioning, lifting, and turning patients.
  • Properly handles oxygen tanks, infusion pumps, IVs, and other medical equipment.
  • Utilizes universal precautions at all times when transporting or handling patients.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Uses and maintains equipment according to vendor protocol and departmental standards.
  • Performs related duties based on departmental needs.
  • Serves as a positive role model and maintains a positive attitude.
  • Participates in unit governance activities and contributes to unit performance improvement activities.
  • Attends in-services and unit meetings.
  • Cleans all equipment after each use and maintains the integrity of unit equipment.
  • Assists visitors to designated areas as needed.
  • Monitors assigned specific areas and clears unwanted equipment.
