About The Position

The Patient Transporter position is located in Arlington Heights, IL, and is a full-time role with hours from 2pm to 10:30pm, including rotating weekends and holidays. The position involves the safe and efficient physical transport of patients within the hospital, including admission and discharge transports, as well as unit to diagnostic testing department transports and return trips. The role requires interaction with patients, their families, nursing staff, and physicians, necessitating strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Requirements

  • Completion of four years of high school or equivalent; minimum of one year of college or vocational schooling preferred.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain a minimum standard of American Heart Association Adult Heartsaver CPR and AED training within 3 months of hire.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact in a positive manner with patients, their families, nursing staff, and physicians.
  • Verbal and written English skills necessary to clearly and effectively communicate information.
  • Organizational skills necessary to prioritize and complete transport tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to respond positively to changes and show willingness to learn new ways to accomplish tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to use and apply correct body mechanics when positioning and transporting patients.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients to and from various locations within the hospital using stretchers, beds, or wheelchairs, including special equipment such as oxygen tanks and IV pumps.
  • Works under the direction of the Patient Transport Dispatcher to receive, accept, execute, and complete transport assignments.
  • Displays a positive, customer service attitude with all patients, patient family members, clinical staff, and medical staff.
  • Transfers patients to and from bed, stretcher, exam tables, and wheelchairs utilizing proper lifting techniques and lift devices as necessary.
  • Maintains transport equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition, disinfecting equipment before and after each transport, and returning equipment to its proper storage location.
  • Adheres to all regulatory requirements and hospital policies regarding patient safety, privacy, identification, and hand-off communications.
  • Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital and Central Patient Transporter departmental standards, policies, and procedures.
