About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Public Safety and Chief Safety Officer and working closely with the Manager/Public Safety and Support Services, the Manager of Patient Transport and Courtesy Coach Program has 24-hour a day responsibility for the Patient Transport Department and Courtesy Coach Program; including: the safe, effective, and timely transport of patients and patient related equipment throughout the hospital and community. The Manager has authority to make decisions related to the Patient Transport Department and Courtesy Coach Program directly impacting patient care and logistics, human resources, and financial management. Is responsible for analyzing and reporting department data and productivity metrics.

Requirements

  • Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record, at time of hire, with annual verification thereafter required.
  • Exceptional analytical and writing skills with demonstrated experience in operations, fiscal management, performance improvement, and policy development.
  • Valid Driver’s License - Various

Responsibilities

  • Assist leadership in development, implementation and evaluation of Patient Transport program to assure a quality service consistent with the Hospital mission.
  • Develops goals and objectives for the department. Plans, organizes and manages the department.
  • Selects, orients/trains, schedules and assigns staff. Develops standards of performance and monitors and supervises staff. Encourages professional development of staff.
  • Monitors the annual operating budget and ensures the department operates within allocated funds. Maintains records and statistics for administration and regulatory purposes. Applies cost-effective measures in departmental operations.
  • Responsible for department policy and procedure development and review.
  • Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow-through and communication.
  • Responsible for effective communication horizontally and vertically within the organization.
  • Is responsible for department’s operational excellence; assures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.
  • Manages human resources to assure quality services and promote positive employee relations.
  • Safety Awareness – Fosters a “Culture of Safety” through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment
  • Be knowledgeable regarding technological advancements, and embrace and apply technological solutions to work processes and practices.
  • Achieve all identified goals and objectives within the specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.
  • Participates in continued learning and possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures that continue to develop in their role and throughout the organization.
  • Embraces technological advances that allow us to communicate information effectively and efficiently based on role.
  • Function as a leader in Security and Public Safety and other areas of responsibility as required.
  • Ensures all rolling stock is maintained, including: general cleaning of equipment (wheelchairs and stretchers). General maintenance of equipment. All logs updated.
  • Ensures staff is properly uniformed and equipped. Utilizes pagers and cell phones at all times. Adheres to departmental policy and procedures with regard to general appearance and uniforms.
  • Ensures Emergency Department has ample supply of wheelchairs and stretchers. Ensures maintained and clean.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Performs work of equal skill and responsibility as directed. May also perform work of a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility and may be requested to do work of a lesser responsibility when the work load so requires
