The Patient Transport Specialist provides a comprehensive array of patient focused services. This position is responsible for lifting, standing, and pushing patients in wheelchairs and on gurneys. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 6 months related customer service work experience required. BLS certification is required within first 90 days • Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. • Proficiency in the use of Teletracking and Spectra telephones is necessary. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven organization skills essential. • Must have sound math, counting and analytical skills. • Must be able to move quickly throughout the hospital on stat calls (zero pages). • Must be friendly, positive, and professional when working with patients. • Must be able to adapt to situations when transporting patients of all ages including children, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. • Must possess basic computer skills for dispatching and 2-way radio communications. Work which produces very high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g. CRT work between 70 and 90 percent of the time, and work involving extremely close tolerances and considerable hand/eye coordination for sustained periods of time. Job definitely requires high levels of strength and/or stamina to regularly lift weights up to 100 pounds and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.
