About The Position

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Patient Transport General Manager to oversee the coordination and management of all patient transportation activities within our Duke Health hospital site. This individual will ensure the safe, timely, and efficient movement of patients to and from departments while maintaining compliance with healthcare standards and hospital policies. Strong leadership and logistical planning skills are essential for this role, along with a deep commitment to patient care and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years in a hospital or healthcare setting with supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in logistics, scheduling, and operational coordination.
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
  • Clear and compassionate communication with patients, staff, and clinical teams.
  • Technologically proficient (MS Office, logistics or ERP software, hospital systems).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field or equivalent experience

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in healthcare logistics or operations management.
  • Experience with transport dispatch software and patient tracking systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the patient transport team, ensuring optimal staffing and coverage for all transport requests.
  • Develop and implement efficient scheduling systems and transport routes using logistical tools and software.
  • Monitor and analyze transport performance metrics (e.g., response times, trip duration, patient satisfaction), and adjust operations accordingly.
  • Coordinate with nursing, emergency, surgical, diagnostic, and administrative departments to prioritize and schedule transport needs.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate transport staff, promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA regulations, and infection control protocols.
  • Ensure all transport equipment (wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, etc.) is maintained, sanitized, and readily available.
  • Identify and resolve transport delays or bottlenecks, and develop contingency plans for high-volume or emergency situations.
  • Assist in developing budgets, controlling costs, and optimizing resource utilization.
  • Lead or participate in cross-departmental projects aimed at improving patient flow and hospital efficiency.
