The Patient Transport Associate is responsible for the transportation and transfer of all patients to and from inpatient rooms, clinical testing areas and procedural areas. The Patient Transport Associate provides the transportation of patients as assigned by means of the designated method (wheelchair or stretcher). Reports intended transport or return of patient to the nurse in charge of area. Observes patients for adverse changes in condition or appearance during transport. Verifies transport task with person at location of assignment and reports completion of assignment as appropriate. Responsible for assuring that equipment is properly assembled, cleaned, maintained and delivered. • Follows safety policies and procedures concerning lifting, moving and transporting patients. • Transports or transfers non-monitored/stable patients as directed. • Ensures IV drip rates and sites, oxygen volume flow or other special equipment and appliances are checked by staff RN prior to patient transport, observing equipment during transport and notifies RN of any changes. • Follows procedures for properly identifying patients prior to transport to or from a service area. • Transports assigned patients by means of designated conveyance (stretcher or wheelchair) to clinical service areas for treatment or diagnostic studies, returning patient to room at the appropriate time. • Observes patients for adverse changes in condition or appearance during transport, notifying Registered Nurse immediately. • Reports intended transport or return of patient to nurse assigned to patient. • Ensures stretcher pads are wiped down and sanitized appropriately.. • This is a job junction for NJ. • Assists staff in turning, lifting and transferring patients from bed/treatment tables to stretchers and wheelchairs. • Maintains cleanliness of wheelchairs, stretchers, and equipment. • Notifies appropriate personnel of any damaged or unserviceable equipment, following established safety policies concerning labeling such equipment and removing them from use immediately. • Assists with post-mortem transport • Maintains a clean and organized work area as directed by Director or designee of assigned unit. • Follows all isolation/contamination policies and procedures in assigned work areas. • Possesses knowledge and understanding of patient transport associate role in event of a disaster (internal or external). Participates in disaster drills. • Understands and demonstrates role in achieving patient satisfaction initiatives. • Attends mandatory in-services annually. • Participates in the department's performance improvement program.
