About The Position

The Patient Transport Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of patients within the healthcare facility. This position involves transferring patients to and from various areas, including inpatient rooms and clinical testing areas, while observing their condition and reporting any changes to nursing staff. The associate is responsible for maintaining equipment cleanliness and following safety protocols during patient transport.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to pass hospital administered Basic Skills test.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment.

Responsibilities

  • Transport and transfer patients to and from inpatient rooms, clinical testing areas, and procedural areas.
  • Provide transportation using designated methods such as wheelchairs or stretchers.
  • Report intended transport or return of patients to the nurse in charge.
  • Observe patients for any adverse changes in condition during transport.
  • Verify transport tasks with the person at the location of assignment and report completion of assignments.
  • Ensure that equipment is properly assembled, cleaned, maintained, and delivered.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and staff in alignment with Jefferson's values.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures for lifting, moving, and transporting patients.
  • Transport non-monitored/stable patients as directed.
  • Check IV drip rates, oxygen flow, and other special equipment before transport, notifying RN of any changes.
  • Follow procedures for properly identifying patients prior to transport.
  • Maintain cleanliness of wheelchairs, stretchers, and equipment.
  • Notify personnel of any damaged or unserviceable equipment and follow safety policies for labeling and removal from use.
  • Assist with post-mortem transport as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area as directed.
  • Participate in disaster drills and understand the role in achieving patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Attend mandatory in-services annually and participate in performance improvement programs.
