About The Position

The Patient Support Technician in the STICU at Prisma Health is responsible for performing routine assistive tasks to support Registered Nurses in meeting basic patient needs. This part-time position focuses on providing compassionate care to patients, assisting with daily activities, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent preferred.
  • Completion of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) course required.
  • Completion of a certificate course in drawing blood, EKG, or Cardiac Care Technician required, or active enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of Fundamentals of Nursing and medical-surgical clinical rotation.
  • Previous CNA or CMA or related experience preferred.
  • One year of hospital clerical experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification or higher preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a hospital setting as a CNA or CMA.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and hospital procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with needs related to nutrition and feeding, including setting up meal trays and assisting with eating and drinking.
  • Support patients with ambulation, including dangling, walking, and implementing fall prevention measures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Assist patients with elimination needs, including helping them to the bathroom or using bedside commodes, bedpans, or urinals.
  • Accurately monitor and document patient inputs and outputs, as well as vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, heart rate, and oxygenation.
  • Report abnormal vital sign values to the Registered Nurse.
  • Perform additional skilled duties such as monitoring tech, drawing blood, or performing EKGs as needed.
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene tasks, including bathing, washing hair, and brushing teeth.
