The Sitter performs various patient care activities related to the patient's physical comfort under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse and helps the patient in completing daily activities in a safe manner. The Sitter may participate in direct patient care, selected treatments, documentation of observations and care given, and the reporting of patient signs, symptoms, and conditions, including drawing lab work, performing whole blood glucose testing, taking vital signs, attaching patients to monitors, EKG testing and transporting patients to departments for testing. May assist nursing service personnel with a variety of other patient care duties. Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.

  • Assist patients with daily living activities (e.g., bed bath, oral hygiene, shaving, dressing, back rubs, linen freshening) and provide general care (e.g., positioning patients, pre- and post-operative care, assisting with bed pan use) in a compassionate manner.
  • Prepare patients for meals, serve food, and feed when needed with compassion and respect.
  • Ensure patients have identification bracelets before transportation and demonstrate compassion and respect in all contacts with patients, family members, and fellow employees.
  • Transport patients to and from designated areas of the hospital in a caring and professional manner.
  • Take and record patient temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake-output measurements as directed.
  • Prepare unit and patient room and bed to ensure proper accommodation during hospital stay.
  • Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer, and discharge procedures with compassion.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic healthcare environment by cleaning rooms and equipment, preparing for sterilization, and reporting damaged equipment.
  • Provide input for end of shift reports and participate in unit quality assurance programs.
  • Utilize equipment, supplies, and resources efficiently to ensure high-quality healthcare services.
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene and daily living activities in a caring manner.
  • Provide assistance with patient rehabilitation under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and special tests as directed by a Registered Nurse.
  • Run inter-departmental errands for nursing personnel in a professional manner.
  • Report any unusual incidents or changes in patient condition to appropriate personnel.
  • Complete other duties as assigned or requested.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of sitter course upon employment.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
  • Current Heartsaver AED certification.
  • Current certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI).
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
