About The Position

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is looking for a full-time Patient Services Representative to join their team in Mechanicsburg, PA. (2020 Technology Parkway, Suite 3200, Mechanicsburg PA 17050) Schedule/Shift: Monday - Friday Daylight hours, rotating start times As a Patient Services Representative, you'll be the first friendly face our patients see. You'll play a vital role in creating a welcoming environment, guiding patients through their visit, and ensuring they receive the highest level of service. From check-in to check-out, you'll help patients navigate their healthcare journey with compassion, clarity, and efficiency. Requirements

  • Completion of high school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Act 34

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with personal computer-based applications, other various office equipment and proficient typing skills are preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a medical / billing / fiscal or customer service function is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Guide patients through the healthcare system with clear, empathetic communication.
  • Follow up on unresolved patient inquiries to ensure continuity of care.
  • Educate patients on financial responsibilities and connect them with advocacy resources when needed.
  • Perform clerical duties such as scanning medical records, faxing, and managing documentation.
  • Assist patients with self-arrival technology or complete check-in at the front desk based on their preference.
  • Collect copayments and other applicable payments at the time of service.
  • Obtain necessary signatures for treatment and financial consent in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and connect patients with ancillary services at checkout.
  • Confirm and update patient registration information.
  • Verify insurance benefits through online systems or direct communication with carriers.
  • Provide a warm, welcoming greeting to all patients.
  • Promote and assist with registration for the MyUPMC patient portal.
  • Register patients in the Biometrics (fingerprint recognition) program and explain its benefits.
  • Appropriately triage and direct phone calls to clinical staff or other departments.
