About The Position

This position is responsible for coordination, oversight, and processing of all referrals for continuity of patient care outside the BYU Student Health Center. This position also coordinates, oversees, and processes all services rendered to SHC patients that require pharmacy patient assistance programs sponsored by pharmacy companies, the US Federal Government, and state governments. This position affects thousands of patients every year.

Requirements

  • 3 years’ experience working in a health care environment.

  • 7 years’ experience working in a health care environment specifically in a business office and billing.
  • 1-3 years’ experience working in a supervisory role.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Assistant Coordination External patient care scheduling, insurance verification/coordination. This includes pre-authorization applications for some medication.
  • Coordination with patients, SHC clinicians, Medical Assistants, and external provider offices regarding patient care specifics.
  • Follow-up with problematic billing cases connected with the above-mentioned external visits.
  • Processing/Oversight of all health coverage pre-authorizations necessary for care administered at the BYU Student Health Center. This duty is a revenue protecting function for BYU Health Services. A functional knowledge of medical billing Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) is a requisite.
  • Coordination of all services rendered to SHC patients relevant to pharmacy and women’s health services patient assistance.
  • Oversight of processing and delivery of all applications to 3rd party payers and government entities that host pharmacy and women’s services patient assistance programs. This service is a revenue generating service for the BYU Student Health Center.
  • Coordinate inventory management of women’s services’ durable medical equipment attained via patient assistance programs and for inventory used for commercial insurance reimbursement. Inventory is valued at $50,000+ at any given time.
  • Supervision of 2-3 student employees in this department. This includes staffing coordination, scheduling, time approvals, employee review, pay decisions, hiring/firing decisions, etc.
