About The Position

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is dedicated to eliminating cancer through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research, and prevention. The position involves scheduling patient visits, physician appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments. The candidate will communicate important information regarding appointments, scheduling, prepayment, and financial counseling to patients, families, physicians, team members, and other patient care areas. Responsibilities also include interpreting and coordinating physician orders, as well as preparing and maintaining appointment templates and patient records. The ideal candidate will possess an Associate's degree or be actively pursuing one, with preferred qualifications including experience handling calls with a multi-line phone system and experience using Epic. Flexibility in scheduling is essential to meet the demands of the dynamic environment at the Center, which may require working fully on-site depending on the specific location.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years of relevant work experience required, with the possibility of substituting additional education for required experience on a one-to-one basis.

  • Experience handling calls with a multi-line phone system.
  • Experience using Epic.
  • Experience in a patient care or healthcare administration setting scheduling appointments, expediting clinic flow, and providing direct customer service to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules patient visits, physician appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments.
  • Communicates pertinent information regarding appointments, scheduling, prepayment, and financial counseling to patients, families, physicians, team members, and other patient care areas.
  • Interprets and coordinates physician orders.
  • Prepares and maintains appointment templates and/or patient records.
  • Greets, orients, and answers questions from patients and families.
  • Advises patients and family members of available services.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors.
  • Utilizes interpersonal and communication skills to ensure customer requests and needs are met.
  • Acknowledges and clarifies customer inquiries, requests, or complaints.
  • Prepares and maintains appointment templates and/or patient records electronically and/or manually.
  • Updates relevant patient information to maintain an accurate patient record.
  • Handles and processes a complex and varied series of documents and situations.
  • Reviews and collects patient payments, including co-payments, deductibles, and other pre-payments required for services rendered.
  • Updates payment information in One Connect when directed by the Financial Clearance Center or Patient Access Services.
  • Reconciles and maintains the integrity of the One Connect cash drawer daily and reports discrepancies to leadership.
  • Performs validation of the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ) required for accurate and timely billing.
