About The Position

The Patient Service Representative at Providence St. Joseph Health is responsible for coordinating information and support for patient flow in the Swedish Medical Center and Emergency Department. This role involves providing front-line customer service, including reception and registration, and assisting patients with demographic and financial data collection, consent completion, and addressing billing or insurance inquiries. The representative also plays a key role in facilitating financial assistance and ensuring accurate patient information flow during hospital stays.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
• 2 years of experience in a medical setting with inpatient or outpatient admitting.
• Experience in patient registration or financial counseling.
• Knowledge of insurance and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate information and support for patient flow in the Swedish Medical Center and Emergency Department.
• Provide front-line customer service including reception and registration.
• Interview patients and families to obtain required demographic and financial data.
• Complete consents and escort/direct patients as needed.
• Collect valuables and deposits from patients.
• Serve as the initial contact for patients/visitors with billing, insurance, or collection questions.
• Assist patients in requesting financial assistance through financial aid programs and process necessary paperwork.
• Facilitate communication with appropriate staff for alternate coverage sources for hospital stays.
• Participate in quality improvement activities of the Medical Center and Emergency Department.
• Perform special project assignments as directed.
• Be flexible in working occasional unscheduled shifts or portions of shifts due to urgent situations.
