The Patient Service Representative (PSR) for the Cardiology Clinic is a full-time, benefits-eligible role responsible for creating and maintaining accurate electronic health records, ensuring patient identification for safety, and managing patient registration, including demographic, guarantor, and insurance information. A key aspect of the role involves discussing and collecting co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities, understanding various insurance plans, and referring patients to Financial Advocates when necessary. The PSR must ensure compliance with government regulations such as HIPAA and EMTALA, obtaining all required patient or guarantor signatures. Responsibilities may also include scheduling appointments (virtual and procedural), coordinating cancellations, providing detailed information for test preparations, and performing visit closure tasks like checking out patients and scheduling follow-up appointments. The role involves educating and supporting patients with the patient portal/app, creating a welcoming and professional environment, handling telephone calls, and maintaining excellent public relations with patients, families, and clinical staff. The PSR is expected to proactively communicate customer service issues and process improvement opportunities to management and offer assistance with transportation, directions, wheelchairs, and interpreter services. Additional duties include e-scanning documents, managing faxes and inbasket messages via the electronic health record, following clinical team directions for emergent needs, monitoring and working electronic health record work queues, and potentially assisting department leadership with orientation and training.
