About The Position

Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Patient Service Representative (PSR) to support the Health in Motion clinic. This role is essential to ensuring smooth patient flow through pre-service, registration, scheduling, and discharge processes. The PSR is responsible for accurate patient registration, insurance verification, appointment scheduling, and payment collection while providing a high level of customer service. This position works closely with clinical staff to support efficient operations and a positive patient experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current AHA BLS certification for healthcare providers required
  • Proficient keyboarding and basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, EHR systems)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in computer applications or medical terminology preferred
  • Customer service experience strongly preferred
  • Prior healthcare or clinic experience preferred
  • Electronic health record experience (Cerner preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and families courteously, in person and by phone
  • Schedule, reschedule, and manage patient appointments within established workflows
  • Accurately register patients in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), including demographics and insurance
  • Verify insurance eligibility and obtain required authorizations when applicable
  • Collect, post, and document copayments and patient payments
  • Scan and upload identification, insurance cards, orders, and supporting documentation
  • Ensure required consent and HIPAA forms are completed
  • Maintain and monitor scheduling pools, referral queues, no-show reports, and reschedules
  • Support coordination of care for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and interventional pain services
  • Communicate appointment details clearly, including arrival time, preparation, and check-in location
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and PSMC policies
  • Provide clerical and registration support to clinical staff
  • Assist with training of new Patient Service Representatives as assigned
