About The Position

The position involves creating the initial electronic health record that serves as the foundation of the patient medical record utilized by all members of the healthcare team. The role includes preventing the creation of duplicate medical records, ensuring compliance with accrediting bodies, checking in and registering patients, and maintaining confidentiality regarding patient information in accordance with HIPAA. The staff member will also handle patient appointments, provide information regarding test preparations, and maintain excellent public relations with patients and clinical staff. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with advanced duties, monitoring electronic health record work queues, and supporting department leadership.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a high workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated independent thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of computer systems and technical proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with insurance verification/eligibility tools.
  • Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical record system.
  • Knowledge of basic medical and insurance terms.

Responsibilities

  • Creates the initial electronic health record for patients.
  • Prevents creation of duplicate medical records.
  • Ensures compliance with accrediting bodies for patient identification.
  • Checks in and registers patients, obtaining and verifying demographic and insurance information.
  • Discusses and collects co-pays and other patient responsibilities.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Understands insurance basics and discusses financial obligations with patients.
  • Schedules patient appointments and coordinates cancellations and reschedules.
  • Provides detailed information regarding test preparations and check-in procedures.
  • Maintains excellent public relations with patients and clinical staff.
  • Communicates customer service issues and process improvement opportunities to management.
  • Greets patients and visitors, responds to requests for information.
  • Answers telephone calls and takes messages.
  • Assists with advanced duties such as training staff and participating in quality improvement projects.
  • Monitors and works assigned electronic health record work queues.
