About The Position

The position involves creating the initial electronic health record that serves as the foundation of the patient medical record utilized by all members of the healthcare team. The role is crucial in preventing the creation of duplicate medical records, which can lead to treatment safety issues and billing problems. The individual will ensure compliance with the organization's accrediting bodies to positively identify patients before delivering care, thus ensuring patient safety. Responsibilities include checking in and registering patients, obtaining and verifying demographic and insurance information, discussing and collecting co-pays, and maintaining confidentiality regarding patient information in accordance with HIPAA. The role may also involve scheduling appointments, providing information about test preparations, and educating patients on the patient portal/app. The position requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work independently and manage high-volume workloads.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create the initial electronic health record for patients.
  • Prevent the creation of duplicate medical records.
  • Ensure compliance with patient identification mandates.
  • Check in and register patients, obtaining necessary demographic and insurance information.
  • Discuss and collect co-pays and other out-of-pocket patient responsibilities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Understand insurance basics and discuss financial obligations with patients.
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate cancellations and reschedules.
  • Provide detailed information regarding test preparations and check-in procedures.
  • Perform visit closure tasks, including scheduling follow-up appointments.
  • Create a welcoming environment for patients and visitors.
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to routine requests for information.
  • Assist patients with transportation needs and other requests.
  • Monitor and work assigned electronic health record work queues.
  • Assist department leadership with orientation and training.
