About The Position

The Patient Service Representative for Occupational Health is responsible for greeting patients and visitors, responding to routine requests for information, and managing patient registration processes. This role involves obtaining demographic and insurance information, verifying coverage, collecting payments, and scheduling appointments. The representative will ensure that patient information is accurate and complete, assist with patient flow, and perform visit closure tasks. The position requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills including experience in using personal computers and Microsoft Office or similar applications.
  • Training or experience in keyboarding/data entry with an emphasis on speed and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors and responds to routine requests for information.
  • Answers telephone, screens calls, and takes messages.
  • Registers patients; obtains demographic and insurance information; verifies insurance coverage, collects co-pays, deductibles, and previous balances; posts payments and updates demographic and insurance information.
  • Schedules patient appointments and coordinates cancellations, reschedules, and additions to schedules.
  • Provides accurate, detailed information regarding test preparations and directions needed by patients.
  • Updates insurance and financial responsibility data when changes occur and communicates to patients as appropriate.
  • Ensures insurance and patient information obtained is complete and accurate.
  • Identifies, reports, and resolves problems regarding registration to appropriate individuals and departments.
  • Monitors patient flow to ensure efficient and courteous care.
  • Offers assistance to patients including arranging transportation needs and providing directions.
  • Performs visit closure including checking out patients after visits and scheduling follow-up appointments.
  • May file, retrieve, and/or deliver patient information and/or records, and completes required forms/documentation.
