About The Position

The Medical Assistant/Patient Services Representative performs a combination of MA and PSR duties to support patient care and clinic operations. This role assists providers with patient care while also managing front desk responsibilities such as patient registration, scheduling, and payment processing.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants. MA Registration or Certification required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to gain knowledge of current practice management system, electronic medical record, Microsoft Word, text paging, Internet, and Intranet.
  • CPR certification required. Certified or Registered Medical Assistant required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers with routine examinations and procedures, including administering injections, medications, vaccinations, and performing blood draws as directed.
  • Document all patient interactions, procedures, and communications in the medical record.
  • Take and record vital signs and assist with patient intake.
  • Provide patient education and support as directed by the provider.
  • Assist patients with basic self-management goals and provide information on community resources.
  • Communicate lab results and provider instructions to patients as directed.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, and pharmacies regarding prescriptions and follow-ups.
  • Support care coordination, including follow-up from hospital or specialty visits.
  • Register patients and complete check-in and check-out processes accurately and efficiently.
  • Schedule appointments and manage patient flow throughout the clinic.
  • Collect co-payments and process payments (cash, check, credit card) while providing receipts.
  • Assist patients with insurance questions and payment options, including sliding scale and assistance programs.
  • Answer phones, route messages, and assist with general patient inquiries.
  • Communicate wait times and delays to patients and coordinate with clinical staff.
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms and ensure proper sterilization of equipment.
  • Maintain inventory and request supplies as needed.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
  • Prepare daily reports, balance cash collections, and assist with deposits.
  • Verify patient accounts and outstanding balances prior to appointments.
  • Participate in team meetings, huddles, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with patient outreach, reminders, and follow-up communications.
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming front office and lobby environment.
