About The Position

The Patient Service Representative I is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients and their families during the admitting process at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. This role involves greeting patients, explaining services, collecting necessary information, and ensuring a smooth registration process. The representative will work closely with patients to inform them about their insurance coverage, financial responsibilities, and the overall process they can expect while receiving care. The position requires adherence to the hospital's customer service philosophy and standards, including the AIDET framework.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • 2 years of experience in Patient Access or related fields such as general physician office support, billing office, insurance office, hospitality, or call center.
  • Intermediate math skills acquired through classroom work or work experience.
  • Typing speed of 25 WPM.
  • Basic understanding of web-based systems and proficiency in data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and acknowledge all patients and family members in a welcoming and prompt manner.
  • Introduce the patient to services and explain what they can expect while under care.
  • Provide information on the likely time spent in the service area, including registration and clinical service.
  • Explain the nature of work and the importance of demographic, socio-economic, and financial information.
  • Collect appropriate out-of-pocket expenses in accordance with policy.
  • Use electronic systems to confirm insurance coverage and discuss findings with patients.
  • Screen uninsured patients for urgent status and follow charity procedures.
  • Notify relevant departments about uninsured patients or those with specific insurance types.
  • Maintain knowledge of computer software programs to verify eligibility.
  • Ensure accurate entry of patient demographic and insurance information in the ADT system.
  • Participate in departmental team building activities and in-services.
