About The Position

The Patient Service Representative 1 position at Advocate Sherman Hospital involves performing various duties related to patient registration and customer service. The role requires a commitment to the hospital's customer service philosophy and adherence to the 'AIDET' standards. The representative will greet patients, provide information about services, and assist with insurance coverage and financial counseling. The position is part-time, requiring a minimum of 8 hours per week, primarily during early morning or Saturday hours.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • 2 years of experience in Patient Access or related fields such as physician office support, billing office, insurance office, hospitality, or call center.
  • Intermediate math skills.
  • Typing speed of 25 WPM.
  • Basic understanding of web-based systems and proficiency in data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and acknowledge all patients and family members in a welcoming manner.
  • Introduce patients to services and explain what they can expect during their care.
  • Provide information on the likely time spent in the service area, including registration and clinical service.
  • Explain the nature of work and the importance of demographic, socio-economic, and financial information.
  • Collect appropriate out-of-pocket expenses in accordance with policy.
  • Use electronic systems to confirm insurance coverage and discuss findings with patients.
  • Screen uninsured patients for urgent status and follow charity procedures.
  • Communicate with financial counseling and clinical staff regarding uninsured patients.
  • Maintain knowledge of computer software programs to verify eligibility.
  • Ensure accurate entry of patient demographic and insurance information in the ADT system.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing calls to complete pre-registrations.
  • Participate in departmental team-building activities and in-services.
