Job Summary The Patient Scheduler is responsible for securing and communicating pertinent information needed for scheduling patients for surgery, out-patient procedures, and follow up appointments Job Specific Responsibilities Daily assignments may include but are not limited to: • Coordinate with patient and medical staff to determine appropriate timing for scheduling a patient’s procedure • Schedule patient appointments on the computer then notify patients • Follow-up with surgeon, anesthesia, and other medical staff partners to ensure all schedules are aligned • Coordinate surgery slips and room run statistics for up-to-date real time scheduling • Ensure patient rooms are clean, stocked and ready for use • Receive and respond to calls, voicemails, and emails from patients and family members within 24 hours • May be required to escort or direct patients to assigned hospital unit and/or transport patients by wheelchair to patient room. • Assist with office and other administrative tasks in the assigned department, when needed • All other related assigned duties UMC Cancer Center Patient Schedulers are required to work multiple clinics when needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to speak, read, and write English
  • Capable of demonstrating empathy and able to make rational independent judgement calls
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to maintain compliance and confidentiality
  • interactions with all departments and employees within UMC.
  • Close interactions with physicians and clinic staff dealing with scheduling and certification of patients’ procedures
  • Work can be sedentary, but may frequently require standing, walking, stooping, pulling, and pushing.
  • Near visual acuity, ability to hear and to speak is required.
  • Should be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Work area is well lighted, and subject to varying indoor temperature changes.
  • The work is performed in a high-risk area for blood borne pathogens.
