Job Summary The Patient Scheduler is responsible for securing and communicating pertinent information needed for scheduling patients for surgery, out-patient procedures, and follow up appointments

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED Required
Demonstrated communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to speak, read, and write English
Capable of demonstrating empathy and able to make rational independent judgement calls
Basic knowledge of medical terminology
Ability to maintain compliance and confidentiality

Responsibilities

Coordinate with patient and medical staff to determine appropriate timing for scheduling a patient’s procedure
Schedule patient appointments on the computer then notify patients
Follow-up with surgeon, anesthesia, and other medical staff partners to ensure all schedules are aligned
Coordinate surgery slips and room run statistics for up-to-date real time scheduling
Ensure patient rooms are clean, stocked and ready for use
Receive and respond to calls, voicemails, and emails from patients and family members within 24 hours
May be required to escort or direct patients to assigned hospital unit and/or transport patients by wheelchair to patient room.
Assist with office and other administrative tasks in the assigned department, when needed
All other related assigned duties
UMC Cancer Center Patient Schedulers are required to work multiple clinics when needed.
