About The Position

The Patient Safety Monitor will function under the direction of and assist the bedside nursing team to provide delegated direct patient care interventions. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe environment for assigned patients, completing assigned work, monitoring patients for changes in condition, and reporting those changes to the RN/LPN. The position involves documentation of ongoing monitoring of patients at required intervals per orders and nursing direction. The Patient Safety Monitor is a vital member of the patient care team, utilizing clerical skills to maintain efficient workflow and ensure safe, quality care with a patient-centered approach focusing on continuity of patient care and satisfaction. Making independent clinical decisions is outside the scope of this position.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete Safety Monitor/Patient Sitter competency checklist within 90 days of hire.
  • Must complete non-violent crisis prevention (Mandt) training with orientation and annually.
  • 1 year of customer service experience is required.
  • Direct patient care experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient rights.
  • Formulates positive working relationships with healthcare customers.
  • Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Basic Life Support - BLS/RQI required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Implement identified care plans through coordination with the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Obtain verbal reports from the patient's nurse regarding care needs, diagnosis, and special considerations.
  • Communicate pertinent data and information relative to the patient in a timely manner.
  • Provide patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction, assisting in ambulation and other ADLs as directed.
  • Promote infection prevention through standard precautions and cleanliness.
  • Deliver care guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring.
  • Continuously observe the patient's behavior and activity, never leaving the patient alone unless instructed.
  • Assist with lifting and movement of patients as directed by the nurse.
  • Promote a respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas.
  • Commit to lifelong learning and personal growth.
