About The Position

The Patient Safety Monitor will function under the direction of and assist the bedside nursing team to provide delegated direct patient care interventions. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe environment for assigned patients, completing assigned work, monitoring patients for changes in condition, and reporting those changes to the RN/LPN. The position involves documentation of ongoing monitoring of patients at required intervals per orders and nursing direction. The Patient Safety Monitor is a vital member of the patient care team, utilizing clerical skills to maintain efficient workflow and ensure safe, quality care with a patient-centered approach focusing on continuity of patient care and satisfaction. Making independent clinical decisions is outside the scope of this position.

Requirements

• Must successfully complete Safety Monitor/Patient Sitter competency checklist within 90 days of hire.
• 1 year of customer service experience is required.
• Direct patient care experience is preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS/RQI) certification required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Implement identified care plans through coordination with the interdisciplinary care team.
• Obtain verbal reports from the patient's nurse regarding care needs, diagnosis, and special considerations.
• Communicate pertinent data and information relative to the patient in a timely manner.
• Provide patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction, assisting in activities of daily living as directed by the primary nurse.
• Promote infection prevention through standard precautions and cleanliness.
• Continuously observe patient behavior and activity, never leaving the patient alone unless instructed.
• Assist with lifting and movement of patients as directed by the nurse.
• Promote a respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and supports professional relationships.
