We are looking to hire a Patient Safety Attendant. As a Patient Safety Attendant at MercyOne, you will support the provision of a safe environment for patients by providing continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients. First line of action is to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at risk behaviors and notifies professional staff of the patient's needs and/or alerts them in case of an emergency. Documents on observation flow sheet and assist licensed nursing staff with cares as delegated and identified on the Safety Attendant information sheet.

Requirements

  • Proof of completion of Dependent Adult and Child Mandatory Reporter abuse training within three (3) months of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma preferred
  • Previous work in a hospital or a college student in medical discipline helpful

Responsibilities

  • Support the provision of a safe environment for patients by providing continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients.
  • Verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at risk behaviors, either in person or over a digital 2-way audio device that is in the patient room.
  • Notify professional staff of the patient's needs and/or alert them in case of an emergency.
  • Document on observation flow sheet.
  • Assist licensed nursing staff with cares as delegated and identified on the Safety Attendant information sheet.
  • Always maintain visual observation.
  • Immediately summon the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate care to patient population based on the patients individualized treatment plan as delegated by the RN.
  • Collect verbal report, updated/accurate information form and observation record from licensed nurse before assuming observation care of the patient.
  • Ensure Safety Attendant Information Sheet is completed and appropriate for each assignment.
  • Document every 15-30 minutes, as appropriate, on Observation Flow Sheet.
  • Participate in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment.
  • Inform nurse prior to leaving monitoring station for any reason so that relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observation.
