About The Position

With a commitment to patient and family centered care, the Safety Associate works collaboratively with the health care team to provide safety, companionship, and supportive care for patients who require additional monitoring or assistance. Promotes quality patient care, comfort, and a safe environment under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This position requires providing service to the following age population(s) pediatric through frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. The role may also be assigned as a virtual safety associate based on campus needs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner (Interpersonal Relationships).
  • Knowledge of principles and practices associated with the rights and responsibilities of patients and caregivers (Patient Rights).
  • Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods, ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form (Health Information Documentation).
  • Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks (Patient Safety).
  • Knowledge of the process taken to restore and maintain essential physiological functions, and the ability to apply these processes in a patient care situation (Life Support).
  • Understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail, ability to process information with high levels of accuracy (Accuracy and Attention to Detail).
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to de-escalate patients who are agitated in a way that preserves patient dignity.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Standard Precautions.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous related experience
  • CPR certification
  • Completion of Patient/Sitter Companion Program
  • De-Escalation class
  • Previous experience in the clinical setting

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Recognizes the patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners.
  • Provides on-to-one direct observation for safety of assigned patient.
  • Assists patient with designated care activities.
  • Reports observations of changes in patient condition or behavior to appropriate staff.
  • Completes required reports and documentation
