About The Position

As a Patient Registration Representative, you will help patients check into the hospital. This role can be fast-paced and requires you to be the person patients rely on to answer questions during registration. You will build trust by collecting information accurately and quickly, and by listening with compassion to address fears, concerns, and questions. To succeed, you need to be a confident multi-tasker, a quick study with technology, and able to type and answer phones. No previous healthcare experience or knowledge is required, as R1 will provide all necessary training, making this an ideal starting point for a healthcare career. Given it's a hospital/lab environment, you must be prepared to encounter illness and injuries. Prior to hire, you must be up to date on all vaccinations, pass a drug test, and pass a background check.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent customer service experience
  • Up to date on all vaccinations
  • Pass a drug test prior to hire

  • Ability to type and answer phones
  • Comfortable working across multiple programs and typing as quickly as patients can talk
  • Comfortable working around clinicians interrupting the registration process for emergent clinical care

Responsibilities

  • Work on computers and answer phones to intake information in a busy environment.
  • Work across multiple screens, collecting and accurately inputting details between physician and nurse check-ins.
  • Help people who may be very ill or worried by listening carefully to ease their anxiety, asking follow-up questions, and building rapport in real time.
  • Assist patients complete their registration in a fast-paced work environment, often on your feet.
  • Acquire knowledge through training to handle variations in health plans and coverage.
  • Work quickly and expect the unexpected.
