About The Position

The position involves gathering patient demographic and financial information and entering it into the computer system. The role includes assigning patient rooms, preparing appropriate documentation, and transporting or escorting patients to their assigned areas. The individual will meet and greet patients as the registration process begins and ensure that all necessary information is scanned and pre-registered for scheduled tests. Adherence to safety, infection control, and colleague health policies and procedures is essential, along with compliance with HIPAA and EMTALA regulations.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.
  • Completion of Medical Secretary program or other general office training preferred.
  • One year of medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration) preferred.
  • Hospital experience and/or medical terminology preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including Windows experience and database software.
  • Ability to convey a positive image and communicate tactfully and professionally.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people and under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Medical Secretary program or other general office training.
  • One year of medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration).
  • Hospital experience and/or medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers patient demographic and financial information.
  • Obtains appropriate signatures.
  • Answers telephone and manages bed assignments.
  • Informs patients of hospital regulations and secures armbands.
  • Makes determinations regarding the need for hospital issued Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN waiver).
  • Assures patients are escorted/transported to assigned areas.
  • Scans all needed information (physician orders, drivers licenses, insurance cards, consents, etc.).
  • Pre-registers all scheduled tests.
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control, and colleague health policies and procedures.
  • Follows HIPAA and EMTALA regulations per hospital policy.
