About The Position

NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Groups (NYPMG) are part of the physician enterprise of NewYork-Presbyterian, one of the nation's most comprehensive academic health care delivery systems affiliated with two world-renowned medical schools. Through primary care and multispecialty medical practices, the physicians and other health care professionals of NYPMG, in collaboration with ColumbiaDoctors and Weill Cornell Physicians, provide families with high quality, patient-centered care close to home in the New York metropolitan area. In this role, the Patient Registrar is responsible for registering, scheduling and obtaining pre-certification and authorization for patients to ensure payment from a third-party payer.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Greet and register patients in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Obtain all pertinent patient demographic and insurance information and enter into appropriate computer system.
  • Pre-register patients.
  • Schedule and maintain daily appointments.
  • Request patient's charts from Health Information and/or physician's files and request various patients' NYPH medical record prior to appointment.
  • Review chart to ensure necessary test results and other relevant information is recorded.
  • Request test results from appropriate areas as needed.
  • Send charts to Health Information to be refilled and send charts back to physician's offices to be filed after completion.
  • Retrieve laboratory and radiographic data from clinic information system and laboratories.
  • Prepare all pertinent paperwork including authorizations, physician requisitions, diagnostics testing requisitions and transportation reimbursements.
  • Verify and document third party eligibility; determine patient liability and obtain authorizations.
  • Notify patient of financial obligation for elective admissions and establish payment arrangements according to financial policies prior to date of service.
  • Counsel patient regarding payment options, Medicaid eligibility, and determine qualifications for charity care.
  • Interface with MEU and Social Services to determine Medicaid eligibility; inform patients of documents required for initiating Medicaid applications.
  • Collect co-payments and fees and issue receipts to patients, as appropriate.
  • Prepare receipts for both hospital and professional patient payments.
  • Maintain record of all financial transactions and reconcile daily cash collection.
