Mercyhealth Patient Registrars are responsible for patient registration duties at Mercyhealth Hospital locations. This role requires individuals to demonstrate behavior that reflects the hospital's mission, vision, and values. Patient Registrars greet patients or family members in various hospital settings and assist them in answering any questions or concerns they may have, either in person or over the phone. The position is fast-paced and sometimes chaotic, as Patient Registrars are the first point of contact for patients and clinical care teams, ensuring that patients are entered or checked in within the electronic medical record to initiate care promptly. As part of the Revenue Cycle, Patient Registrars are responsible for accurate registrations, obtaining insurance coverage, educating patients on their financial responsibilities, and collecting applicable payments. The role requires confidence with technology and typing, although previous healthcare experience is not necessary. Given that some shifts may occur in the Emergency Department, registrars must be prepared to encounter serious illnesses and injuries. Weekend and holiday rotations are also a requirement of this position. The essential duties include engaging in positive interactions with patients, providing assistance in anticipating and responding to their needs, and maintaining composure under pressure. Registrars will participate in team-building activities, quality improvement initiatives, and educational experiences. They will also provide training to new partners as identified by leadership. Responsibilities extend to managing patient registrations, verifying insurance information, collecting payments, and assisting with coordination of patient care. The role demands excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
