About The Position

The Referrals Coordinator provides high quality customer service to patients, providers and staff in a respectful, positive manner. Obtains authorizations and processes referrals for services and procedures of all incoming and outgoing specialty services. Works with clinical staff and providers obtaining patient paperwork to support patient care services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with colleagues and customers.
  • Competent in computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong typing skills/speed.
  • Comfort in answering phones and speaking with customers on the phone.
  • Ability to manage time, tasks, and resources appropriately.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
  • Ability to read and write clearly, and understand policies, labels, and written instructions.

  • Experience in a medical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate Work Effectiveness through safe completion of assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Follow high reliability practices set by the organization and/or department and report safety concerns.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects throughout the organization.
  • Participate in organizational wide New Employee Orientation and successful completion of departmental orientation.
  • Arrive to your workstation at your appointed time and be ready to perform the work assigned.
  • Gather all necessary and required documentation supporting patient referral to be ready for scheduling.
  • Upload supporting documentation and authorization information into the EMR consistent with PRH electronic record policy.
  • Communicate and work with referring provider and/or the clinic team to ensure understanding of the varying requirements from insurances to obtain prior authorizations.
  • Complete referrals and prior authorizations in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Research denials, call insurance companies, doctors' offices or patients to assist resolve denial issues.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and take responsibility for departmental space.
  • Respond to requests from patients, colleagues and external customers as requested.
