Requirements

  • Grade ten (10) and one (1) year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current basic Life Support Level C certificate.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, such as lifting heavy patients and standing/walking for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients by wheelchair, stretcher or bed to and from various departments in the Hospital.
  • Delivers and picks up items as required for nursing units, such as specimens to the Lab., medications to and from the Pharmacy, messenger to the Operating Room.
  • Ensures that patient needs are attended to while being transported; obtains emergency assistance as required.
  • Assists in lifting and transferring patients to and from stretchers, wheelchairs etc., to bed or table.
  • Cleans equipment used in transport such as pumps, IV poles, stretchers; changes linens and reports maintenance requirements for patient transport equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
