About The Position

The Patient Observer in Behavioral Health at Marshall I. Pickens Hospital is responsible for constant observation of patients to ensure their safety and to prevent self-harm or harm to others. This role involves assisting with limited patient needs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • No previous experience required; previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • CNA or PCT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides constant 1:1 observation of assigned patient.
  • Documents and reports any risks, changes or problems observed according to policy.
  • Completes safety sweeps for patients at risk for self-harm.
  • Ensures the patient is not unattended and engages assistance if the patient tries to leave the floor.
  • Gives and receives hand-off communication regarding the patient assigned to observe.
  • Assists with meeting patient's needs such as turning and positioning, diversional activities, feeding, ambulation, patient transfers, and transports.
  • Attends to patients at risk for self-harm during bathing, toileting, and sleeping.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
