About The Position

The Patient Observer role at Cooley Dickinson Health Care involves providing constant supervision and support to high-risk patients to ensure their safety and comfort. This position is crucial in maintaining patient safety under the guidance of the unit's Shift Charge Nurse, contributing to the overall quality of care provided by the hospital.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to communicate with children and/or adults required.
• AVADE certification required within 6 months of hire.
• Experience working in a clinical environment preferred.
• American Heart Association BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Remain in constant attendance with assigned high-risk patient until relieved by a member of the healthcare team.
• Immediately report any observed change in the patient's condition to the patient's nurse.
• Assist in falls prevention by ensuring the patient's safety.
• Help place patient's extremities back into bed as needed.
• Remove clutter or items within the patient's reach to prevent accidents.
• Offer assistance with toileting as required.
• Assist patient with ambulation using appropriate assistive devices.
• Offer food and fluids to the patient as needed.
• Assist with turning and repositioning the patient while maintaining privacy and dignity.
• Recognize when and how to call for help.
