Requirements

  • High School/GED
  • Less than 1 year experience in Patient Observation Attendant (formerly known as sitter) services or equivalent.
  • BLS required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years experience in direct patient care.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant, Nurse Tech, or other clinical support staff related to inpatient hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safety and security support to the patient(s) while hospitalized, primarily by being aware, alert, present, and alerting nursing staff of concerns.
  • Assists the client to the bathroom and around the unit ONLY if the client is able to ambulate and needs only minimal support and steadying.
  • If client is in bed, assists client with needs and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
  • Engaging patient in activities according to plan of care.
  • Talks with, reads to, and provides companionship.
  • Provide competent physical/therapeutic care and ADLs consistent with job title/role.
  • Appropriate documentation in medical record as outlined by Charge Nurse.
  • Remains in constant attendance of the client.
  • Arranges scheduled breaks with RN.
  • Adheres to all Safety Companion policies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding patients.
  • Performs other functions as required.
