About The Position

NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, located in Flushing, New York, is a community teaching hospital affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine, serving Queens and metro New York residents. The 535-bed tertiary care facility provides services in 14 clinical departments and numerous subspecialties. Annually, 15,000 surgeries and 4,000 infant deliveries are performed at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens. The Oncology Patient Navigator will work jointly with several medical departments, to actively reach, educate and engage men and women onto clinical trials. Supports patients in treatment decision navigation, provides logistical support, acts as a liaison between the patient and medical team and directs patient inquires to appropriate staff. Participates in community health education events and conducts outreach to community-based organizations. Position includes direct contact and communication with patient, in person, on telephone or via e-mail. This is a Full Time Day shift position Monday – Friday 9AM – 5PM at NYP/Queens in Flushing, NY.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree with some experience in healthcare
  • Must possess experience working in a social services (healthcare coordination capacity) and/or health care setting, having worked directly with clients/patients, and program/s coordination
  • Facility with personal computers and database software
  • Strong oral and written communications; planning and organization
  • Strong analytical skills, problem identification, identifying alternative courses of action
  • Must have a thorough understanding and working knowledge of patient confidentiality issues
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, clinical staff of all levels, and administrators
  • Interest in healthcare disparities and assisting underserved communities

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree focusing in health education or a related field
  • Spanish and/or Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese
  • Experience working in oncology
  • Experience working with clinical trial
