About The Position

Patient Navigator (RN or LPN) Location: Troy, MI Facility: Michigan Institute of Urology Status: Full-Time, Monday – Friday (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM) Understanding Bladder Cancer Care Bladder cancer is one of the most common cancers, often requiring a complex treatment journey that may include surgery, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy. Because timely intervention and consistent monitoring are critical to successful outcomes, patients often face a daunting path of appointments and clinical decisions. As a Patient Navigator, you act as the vital bridge, ensuring patients understand their diagnosis and stay on track with their life-saving care plans. The Opportunity Michigan Institute of Urology is seeking a compassionate, organized, and clinically skilled RN or LPN to join our state-of-the-art facility in Troy. This role serves as the critical link between clinical care and the patient experience, specifically helping patients and their families navigate the complexities of Bladder Cancer treatment. GENERAL SUMMARY The Patient Navigator is responsible for working directly with patients and their families to discuss any questions, complaints, comments, or suggestions. Advocates for patient in resolution of concerns. Empowers patients through knowledge and emotional support to independently navigate through the patient care pathway.

Requirements

  • Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) required.
  • Experience: Required: Previous experience in Urology, Oncology, or a similar specialty-focused environment.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of medical terminology, EMR systems, and insurance coding.
  • Core Traits: Deep sensitivity toward the patient experience, ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining strict HIPAA confidentiality.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in a medical office setting.
  • Minimum of two years experience in customer service relations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding.
  • Display exceptional customer service skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge that includes Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
  • Must communicate clearly and effectively in both a written and verbal format.
  • Knowledge of patient confidentiality, state laws, HIPAA regulations, and medical records procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate appropriately with leader and teammates.
  • Understands and is sensitive to patient and family experiences.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working specifically with Bladder Cancer patients is strongly preferred.
  • Certification: IV Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Bladder Cancer Advocacy: Act as the primary guide for patients diagnosed with bladder cancer, providing essential education on diagnoses and treatment options.
  • Barrier Removal: Identify and eliminate obstacles to care by coordinating referrals, scheduling, and arranging support services.
  • Clinical Integration: Use your clinical background to assist patients in understanding their care plans and ensuring all necessary documentation is charted accurately in the EMR.
  • Resource Coordination: Connect families with specialized support groups and financial resources to ensure a manageable and supported treatment journey.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in the patient’s electronic medical record. Updates information when changes have occurred, or new information is available.
  • Guides patients and families through their healthcare experience, answers questions, provides education, helps them to understand their diagnosis and treatment options.
  • Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing team strategies.
  • Tracks and documents metrics and outcomes.
  • Identifies support groups appropriate for patients and families and coordinates scheduling of appointments.
  • Provides age and culturally appropriate information and resources during the diagnostic evaluation.
  • Removes obstacles to treatment by scheduling appointments, coordinating referrals, arranging transportation, translation, and other needed services.
  • Help patients navigate insurance claims and works to create payment plans when necessary.
  • Ensure that patients are fully informed about their legal rights.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
